Solid Elm Hardwood Flooring

Elm Hardwood Flooring

English Elm was once widely used in homes, particularly in halls and staircases as, like oak, it is hardwearing. The colour is a darker, richer brown. We understand that care needs to be taken with English Elm as the grain is quite wild and the wood is more sensitive to variations in moisture. Therefore in modern, warmer houses we suggest the use of Wych Elm as it is more stable than English Elm.

An elm wood floor is a superb alternative to oak. The colouring of elm ranges from dark purple to light green, with various hues of silver and brown in between but the character is truly wonderful with a grain that swirls and flows around small knots and pips.

Our elm logs are those that have succumbed to Dutch Elm disease in recent years and have been felled as a result. The disease does not affect the quality of the wood that we use. An elm floor is a hardwearing and durable floor and is well worth consideration.
